New guidance for police and shooters

New guidance for police and shooters

The Countryside Alliance have said the new guidance makes things fairer on both the police and the shooter.

New best practice guidance, from the Association of Chief Police Officers, has been released. This new guidance should lead to fewer delays in shotgun and firearm certificate renewals.

The guidance will encourage police forces to issue temporary permits to shooters whose certificate renewal has been delayed through no fault of their own.

Members of the British Shooting Sports Council and the Countryside Alliance (CA) have been working hard to ensure a balance between fair play for the shooter awaiting renewal, and the firearms licensing managers.

Robert Gray, campaigns director for the CA, said: "This is very good news for the shooting community because delays over certificate renewals have been a running sore amongst shooters for a very long time.

The new formula is fair on both the police and the shooter. Praise must go to ACPO Firearms and Explosives Licensing Group and we now urge all police forces to adopt this best practice."
