The Castle Howard Estate has become the first recipient of the Yorkshire Grey Partridge Group Trophy.

The award was presented at the Yorkshire Grey Partridge group’s autumn meeting.

Receiving the award, Wyne Bennett, the Head of the Conservation and Gamekeeping Department on the estate said, "I am chuffed to bits to be the first recipient of this magnificent trophy.  It still thrills me after years of involvement with grey partridges to see a covey and that remains a strong motivator to support this iconic farmland bird."

In the judges’ opinion the estate went that extra mile to help grey partridges by dedicating 1000 acres of land to the creation of appropriate nesting, brood rearing and winter cover.

It is this mosaic of habitat spread around the farm that really benefits the grey partridge population on the estate.
