London 2012 Olympic shooting row: Boakes resigns

Former sports minister, Kate Hoey MP announced her resignation as chairman of the CPSA in protest.

The London 2012 Olympic shooting row continues with the resignation of British Shooting chairman, Phil Boakes.

It is understood he was forced to resign after he went against the views of the board and members by stating to the London 2012 organising committee that British Shooting now agreed Bisley was not a suitable venue to hold the Olympic shooting events.

British Shooting continues to campaign for a venue that provides a legacy for shooting and is opposed to the shooting competitions being held at the temporary venue at Woolwich.

Former sports minister, Kate Hoey MP, who advises London mayor Boris Johnson on the Olympics, announced her resignation as chairman of the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association in protest at Mr Boakes’s forced departure, saying it was “short-sighted and wrong”.

phil boakes,should go if he cant stand up for the members as reguards to kate hoey sorry she has taken the view to resign from the cpsa but its her choice boakes to my mind has never been the one for the job says one thing and does somthing else k smith

Can you believe it. At a time when shooting suffers all the negative publicity the Beeb can throw at it, the leaders of the sport see it as prudent to tear the the governing organisations apart. Get with the program! 2012 is not going to happen at Bisley. Get over it and help to make this the opportunity to sell our sport to the wider public. Bloody well grow up!!

Both Mr Boakes and Kate Hoey went further than just ending their support for Bisley - they actively transfered their support to Dartford, where it should have been all along. They are right. If shooting united behind Dartford they would get a legacy, but at this rate they will get nothing. If was ever going to go to Bisley, don't you think it would have done so by now?

If Bisley is not to the requirments of the Olympic Commitee, then surely nowhere else in this land could even get a look in. As to the utter waste of taxpayers money that will be incurred for building and subsequent demolition at Woolwich, this has the dead hand of politics and anti- shooting agendas behind it, just remember there is a general election coming up in the not too far future--Pay back time methinks.
