Phillip Pook of Glamorgan has become the first dog owner in the UK to be prosecuted for using an electric shock collar.
Appearing at Bridgend Magistrates’ Court, 48-year-old Mr Pook admitted using the collar to stop his border collie from jumping over a high wall ground his property.
The Animal Welfare (Electronic Collars) (Wales) Regulations 2010 prohibit the use of collars designed to give a shock, but their use is still legal in England and Scotland.
Mr Pook was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay £1,000 in costs.
