The United Kingdom Trophy Commission measured a record Japanese sika deer trophy at this year's CLA Game Fair.
The specimen, which made a score of 318 CIC points, was supplied with a portfolio of supporting photographs and a DNA sample which will now be used to establish which race or races of Japanese sika it originated from, before its formal entry into the record book.
Five accredited judges and two trainees considered more than 100 trophies, with examples from all six British deer species as well as feral goat and boar.
A total of 72 medals were awarded.
