Alliance condemns BBC
report on youngshots

Certain scenes in the BBC report were "clearly designed to mislead and upset viewers."

The BBC's One Show report on under-14s shooting has been roundly condemned shooting groups.

Responding to a report on the BBC's One Show programme last night about young people owning shotgun licences, during which a reporter took a grieving mother to a shooting club – David Taylor, Shooting Campaign Manager for the Countryside Alliance, said:

“At times it feels like the BBC is determined to stop young people shooting. They made a big fuss over the number of under-14s holding shotgun licences earlier this year and then the recent One Show episode, in which they took a mother whose son had been shot and killed to a shooting range, was clearly designed to mislead and upset viewers.

“Although the presenter was at pains to stress there wasn’t a link between sport shooting and gun crime, the implication made by taking a bereaved mother to a gun range was irresponsible and the BBC should know better.”
