How do I get a biting ferret off me?

By Edward Cook

Monday, 01 December 2008

What’s the best way to shake off a ferret that’s latched onto your finger?

Ferrets
EDWARD COOK says:
As with any animal initial handling is very important to avoid such painful dramas!

A ferret that’s used to being handled will enjoy being picked up and stroked gently.

But let’s say it does make a mistake and for some reason refuses to let go.

My first reaction would be to swear loudly and then follow up by pinching the ferret’s jaw open with the index finger and thumb on my other hand until the lovely little so and so lets go.

This should do the trick every time but if it doesn’t, you might need to dunk the little blighter under water briefly - so just hope there’s some close by when it happens!
