Heat haze stopped me from pigeon shooting!

Heat haze stopped me from pigeon shooting!

Red hot barrels? Most of us would love to have that predicament!

When pigeon shooting last summer, I enjoyed a couple of days on laid wheat in hot weather - the only trouble was the heat haze from the barrels caused problems when the gun was mounte How do you stop this haze occurring? Would it help to pour cold water down the barrels from time to time?

I’m not sure if pouring cold water down the barrels is a good idea! Getting water near the barrels in any situation is generally a bad idea.

Most semi-autos and over-unders have ventilated ribs on their barrels, and these definitely help dissipate the heat and cool them down.

If the sport on your laid wheat was that fast and furious, a bit of heat haze was probably a small price to pay.
