Having your new dog microchipped or tattooed could help it be returned if it's stolen.

Do you think microchipping is better than tattooing? I'm buying a new gun dog soon and would like to have one of these done.
DOG MICROCHIPPING
Peter Blatch
It is quite sad to think of the lengths that we have to go to keep our beloved dogs out of the wrong hands, but dog theft, it seems, is now a sign of the times.
The people who pinch dogs are arseholes, plain and simple.
Microchips or tattoos?
You can get a dog chipped quickly and easily at any veterinary surgery, and it’s pretty cheap, too.
My only reservation is that a chip can be open to abuse from a really unscrupulous thief whereas a tattoo on the ear isn’t.
The other advantage with a tattoo is that it can be seen clearly and doesn’t need to be read by a scanner.
In my opinion a tattoo is definitely better and more tattooing facilities should be made available around the country.
